Dave

Thanks for your help getting the word out on connecting to DeltaNet with any  ISP, and the extra steps for Mac users.

DeltaNet is now available to everyone with an employee number, including all retirees.
Here is a web page that will get anyone who is not hooked up started.  Once registered, a certificate/password will be mailed to the employee (snail mail but quick....I've had reports that it only takes like 3 days to get).

https://register.delta-air.com/DeltaOnLine/ac_home.jsp

If anyone has trouble with this first web site, then try:

http://deltadt.com/ispinfo/connect.html

Thanks much!

Dear DL Pioneers

We always hear that "they are working on it" to give everyone access to
DeltaNet and to be part of the Wired Workforce. But, so far..... nothing
from DL.

See below info regard one who has successfully hooked up to DeltaNet.  I would be interested in hearing from others who can make it work!

Description of problem:
Just a note to you about connecting (to Delta Net) via my MacIntosh.  I
have been led to believe that connecting with my Mac was impossible.

Well I decided to purchasea program called Virtual PC which allows Macs to temporarily put on a PC "face" to run PC programs.  The version of Virtual PC that is use runs Windows 2000.  I now am able to connect and use the DL Net as any PC user via DL's VPN.

It would be nice if there was a way to get this info out to Mac users as I have heard of some who have purchased cheap PCs in order to connect and been very dissappointed etc.

Hope you can help get the word out.

Dave,
After three days and countless hours on the phone with technical support people from Delta, Dish Network, and Starband, I finally got the Delta VPN Software loaded and connected to the Delta Travel Web site. I won't go into all of the details, but I was very disappointed at the lack of knowledge by most of the technical support people with whom I talked. At first I could not load the software using Windows ME, so I installed WindowsXP which solved this part of the problem. Then problems arose because I was trying to access the site with a satellite modem and some additional steps are required that were not familiar to most of the technical support people. We happened on these steps by a very knowledge gentleman at Starband, who would not give up and kept trying different approaches until we can up with the solution. Most of the other people with whom I talked told me that the VPN software was not compatible with the Starband Satellite Modem. Here are the steps we found necessary to make the software work with the ISP Starband.net and Internet Explorer 6.0 browser.
After a connection is established with the Cointivity VPN Client (Delta Widget appears in the lower right hand portion of the toolbar) open Internet Explorer and attempt to access the web site http://dalweb.delta-air.com. If you receive an error message proceed to the following steps:
Open Internet Explorer>Select Tools>Select Internet Options>Select Connections Tab>Select LAN Settings>Under Proxy Server remove the Check Mark from the "Use Proxy Server box" and click OK. This should allow access to the web site, however, your connection will be much slower than normal using a satellite modem. After you have finished with this site go back and re-check the Proxy Server box to before going to other web sites to restore normal operation.
II hope this helps and if some other satellite modem users found different solutions, I would be interested.

After a little trial and error I found a very easy way to get connected to the Delta Net after you receive your authorization code. By the way, the letter from the company with the authorization code has the wrong web address.
Go to https://register.delta-air.com (no www in the address). Click on "instructions" in the second paragraph, the Print and Read paragraph, and follow the directions. There are five steps listed that are written in plain language and very clear and concise.

==================================
Dave, I was advised by the tech support guys to disable Norton or whatever anti-virus program I'm running, install the DLNet software, then reinstate the security program.

==================================
If you use AOL you must close AOL in order to install the software. Once it is install and you want to sign on to dalweb, sign onto AOL then minimize it in order to get to your desktop. Open internet exporer and typ in http:/dalweb.delta.com and it should come up. Help line at Delta Technology is 404 677-3993. They cleared up the problem I was having with AOL.davesiek@aol.com

==================================
I may have some info on how to configure the VPN. I am using Windows 98 on a laptop and Windows XP (Home Edition) SP1 on my desktop. The laptop works perfectly, but I have a few minor glitches with XP, but they can be worked around. Let me put together an e-mail & you can forward it to the NET.

==================================
I have Windows ME, had my Norton Anti-virus running, use Outlook express and my ISP is Netzero, and I had no problem downloading and using DLNET. Maybe I'm lucky!!!

info on the availability of such.

Dear Dave, I seem to be in computer twilight zone. I printed 15 pages out to get access to the DAL Net and every thing worked fine until page #7. I completed step 10 and 11 on page 6 (successful passport creation) went to step 11 (click finish) and have now hit a brick wall. There is nothing to click on to continue? Can anyone help a computer retard. I swear it might be easier to get into Fort Knox than this DAL site. Regards Dick Boyens

Dave, This came from the LAX Chief's office.
It has been brought to our attention that if you have AOL or Compuserve as your ISP you will have to take extra steps to get the VPN working.  With AOL and probably Compuserve, you have to connect to the internet, then minimize the screen and use Microsoft Internet Explorer to access the VPN.  Once in Internet Explorer type the VPN address (www.register.delta-air.com) in the url field.  Once in the VPN, printing the instructions makes it a lot easier to correctly download and install.  Make sure you follow the directions carefully.  One of the download instruction addresses is case sensitive.  > If you need further help, click on "HELP" on the vpn page.
Delta Technology is aware of the problem and will put something out next week.  Larry Karp Flight Operations Manager-LAX

Dave:
Please share this with the NET (as you see fit) and you are welcome to publish my telephone contact along with my e-mail address in case anyone would like to e-mail me or talk to a "live" person.
I have had access to the Delta website (and TravelNet) ever since People PC got involved with Delta, since my Flight Attendant wife was active at the time (now retired). I used the Delta ISP-Only CD that was provided free of charge to those that did not want to purchase a PC through People PC. This gave us access to the Delta website through People PC's website. I then found out (after quite a few phone calls) that all that was necessary was a Delta VPN connection and an authorization code. The info you have forwarded about the authoriztion code is correct. You request one using your PPR number, date of hire and PIN with Delta. The URL for requesting an authorization code, which is used to setup your Delta Passport account, is https://register.delta-air.com/DeltaOnLine/ac_home.jsp. Please note the "s" after "http" since this is a secure site and the space after "ac" should be an underscore. My e-mail program underlines the whole URL, which is not necessary and also deletes the underscore. This URL is slightly different than the one you put out on the NET, but it gets you right to the page to request an authorization code. I also highly recommend going to http://register.delta.com and printing the instructions for doing everthing correctly. Note there is no "s" in this address and neither URL is a "www" site. To print the instructions, click on the instructions hyperlink in the second paragraph. You will need Adobe Acrobat to do this. That can be obtained free of charge at www.adobe.com or also from the ALPA website.
I have installed the VPN on a laptop that is running Windows 98, a desktop running Windows XP (w/SP-1) Home Edition, and helped one of my best friends (Retired Delta) install it on his Windows ME machine. The Windows 98 and ME are working fine. I have one minor glitch with the XP machine, which I think was caused by installing Service Pack 1 for XP. The glitch is that the four small icons on the TravelNet page that are located about three o'clock on the page cause a javascript error when I click on them. These four icons are: print, e-mail, fax, and find fare. Prior to SP-1 they worked OK, but now I get an error message at the bottom of the window. Unfortunately, SP-1 has so many security fixes that I am not willing to uninstall it, so I just use the Windows 98 laptop if I need to e-mail to my kids.
Once you get your authorization code, you can set up a Passport account. This account will then reside on you computer's hard drive in a folder entitled "Entrust" and can be found in your Program Files Folder. The important file in this Entrust folder is the one the will start with your 9-digit PPR and have a file extension ending with <.epf>.
Using the instructions I mentioned above, the rest is fairly easy, but like anything else, I did find a few errors in the instructions, but they were minor. I suggest saving the downloaded software (DeltaNet VPN Connector & Delta EPF Installer) to your desktop for easy access while you are setting everything up. Once setup is complete, there will be another icon on you Desktop that is titled Delta VPN Connector. The icon is a small globe with a jet in the middle of it. This is the one to use to start the VPN. You can safely delete the other two icons that were the two downloaded files. Once all is over & done, to access the Delta website, first start the Delta VPN connector and a Widget icon will show up in your System Tray (lower right on your Taskbar). Then go to your browser and type in http://dalweb.delta.com. Note that there is no "www" and that both Internet Explorer and Netscape will automatically enter "http://".
For us retirees, there are some areas on the Delta site that we can no longer access, but those of you who travel a lot, you will find the TravelNet far better than using Widget Works. You can manage all your itineraries, keep track of what is happening to your Buddy Passes (after a listing is made), and much more. Also, if you have a laptop, take it with you. You can actually sit at the gate, hooked up to the internet through a payphone, go to TravelNet and watch who is getting your first class seat. In the Airport Standby List, it shows all the NRSA's plus any frequent fliers upgrading, full-fare standby's, etc. All you do is click on the Refresh button occasionally, & it's like looking over the agent's shoulder. Like anything else, it gets easier the more you use it.
I hope I have not complicated the issue or for some of our computer nerd types (I'm not one) been overly simplistic. Please call or e-mail Vailmtneer@attbi.com.

Jim Horan

Hi Dave,
Please forward this request for help to other members of the Delta Retirement Net. I am having trouble installing the software for the Delta VPN using the Windows ME operating system and wonder if anyone else is having a problem.
The Deltanet VPN Connector and Delta EPF Installer appears to download and install normally, but when I reboot my computer after the installation is complete the following message appears: Windows could not update file from 1% to @%...Continue to load windows. The computer continues to reboot and everything appears normal. Then when I attempt to download the Delta Passport Cerfificate a dialog box appears with the following message: You must reboot after installing the Contivity VPN Client...Please reboot system. I have uninstalled the software, reinstalled it and rebooted my computer several times with the same results. I called the help desk several times and have been unable to speak with anyone who could resolve the problem. At first, they seem to think that a virus detection program might be keeping windows from updating some files, but on the next few attempts I closed down my anti-virus program and the results were still the same. I would appricate comments from other Windows ME users that might have had a problem installing this software. If I can't resolve these issues, I might update to Windows XP. Has anyone had a problem installing the software using this operating system.
Thanks,
Ron Stowe

Dave,

I am not able to get on the Deltanet using my AOL because they supposedly do not support this type of address. I did get my number , etc from the company, but it won't work. If you know someone who has AOL dsl and is able to get connected with the Deltanet, let me know.

Dave, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year !!
Regarding Carol's message to imply that she is the only Mac owner to connect to Delta Net and the wired workforce.. I don't believe she has to use Virtual PC, as I know many Mac owners who hook up that are full time employees and use Peoplepc addresses provided they were approved from the beginning. This is where our problem occurs after we are retired being removed from the list. Getting approval from Delta to get on is what the problem is.. There is no technical problem that I know of. I was able to get on from the beginning and was removed from the approved list month's later.. Bill K

Dave, Thanks for all of your great work. Perhaps the above information needs a little clarification for us Mac Users. Carol writes "Thanks for your help getting the word out on connecting to DeltaNet with any ISP, and the extra steps for Mac Users". I went to the web site: <http://www.register.delta-air.com/> and it says right there under Compatible Operating Systems Not Compatible with Apple Computers.
I believe that the Macs CAN connect as long as they have Virtual PC software and follow the excellent connection procedures written by Delta Pilot Dave Kupiec and available on the web at:

You might want to advise those signing up for the DALWEB that the register URL is case-sensitive. It has to be DeltaOnLine.
