Well, from the non-expert.... As a result of all of the communications that I've had with the guys, it appears that all pre-97 retirees are to get the reimbursements of their Medicare premiums, paid back by Delta on a quarterly basis. (emphasis added..Dave) In the beginning, there apparently was no requirement in the agreement that a retired pilot reaching age 65 had to apply in any way. This is well proven by the fact that some pilots suddenly and surprisingly began receiving these reimbursements when they reached age 65. Now it appears that Delta does want us to apply by simply sending/faxing a copy of the Medicare card which would then show Part B listed on it as proof that the premiums are in fact being paid by the participant. As inferred in Mr. Kight's email to me, the company is willing to assume that a pilot now enrolled in Part B had been a part B participant since his reaching age 65, and that retroactive payments will be made.
Pre-97 apparently is just that; a retiree who initiated his retirement prior to January 1, 1997. This included the 'early out' retirees (500 I think) who did their paperwork prior to 1997, regardless of when Delta felt it could actually release them. Therefore, some retirees may have continued on the seniority list into 1997 and 1998, but still were qualified by virtue of the fact that they were 1996 applicants.
The agreement also states that spouses and survivors of these same retirees will receive the reimbursements as well under the same conditions as their pilot spouses.
Hopefully Rob Kight and Delta will be true to their intentions as spelled out in Mr. Kight's email to me. I feel this situation will be satisfactorily resolved....and am I glad to get it behind me!
Please understand my sincerity when I tell you how very important your help was in this endeavor, and very truly, without your time and your net, I would have had no way to acquire the contacts and information that were critical to this.
Thanks Dave. Let me know if this does or does not give you the information you need, and understand that I am not as well versed in this as I might have needed to be.
If you have Optional Life Insurance from Delta, it changed to MetLife for 2008.
You will most likely need to go to the MetLife link below and update/enter your beneficiaries. It was supposed to be done automatically but a number of employee's and retiree's accounts were not updated.
Begin the process by entering the word Delta on the first screen that appears. You then have to establish an account. Your employee number is the one with the zeros added.
